About Me

Philip O'Brien

Welcome to my digital office, where creativity, design and the occasional cup of tea merge. I’m Philip O’Brien, a WordPress designer with a dedicated to crafting simple yet effective online spaces, and with a love of minimalism.

My approach to design is simple: less is more. I believe in the power of clean lines, open spaces, and carefully chosen fonts that make your content shine. Content, white space and negative space keep it clean and simple, and tell – or sell – your story.

Over 20 Years of Web Design Experience

For more than two decades, alongside my main career as a Principal BI Engineer, I’ve been designing websites that blend form and function, working on everything from small blogs, micro-business websites, through to larger and more complex e-commerce sites. Each project has been an opportunity to explore new ideas, push boundaries and to understand the unique needs of each client, creating custom solutions that stand the test of time.

These days I work primarily at the smaller (and definitely no less challenging) end of the market, where I love building great sites on lower budgets for some truly amazing people.

The Art of Typography

Fonts are more than just letters on a page; they’re a critical part of how you communicate your brand. I have a love for typography that drives me to find the perfect typeface for every project, ensuring that your message is both clear and aesthetically pleasing.

Digital Designer & Stone Carver

But my creative journey doesn’t stop at the digital world. When I’m not immersed in pixels and code, you’ll find me working with stone, bringing both old and new designs to life through the ancient craft of stone carving. There’s something deeply satisfying about shaping stone—it’s a solid counterpoint to the digital precision of computer design and a way to stay grounded in a hands-on craft.

And that obsession with typography comes in handy when I’m doing a bit of lettering in stone.

Creativity Fuelled by Tea

A near-permanent supply of tea is a given, whether I’m sketching out a new website concept or chiseling away at a block of stone. But when I need to clear my head and find inspiration, you’ll find me out taking long walks on the moors here in the heart of West Yorkshire. The vast, open landscapes help me reset and return to my work with fresh ideas and renewed focus.

Let’s Connect

Whether you’re in need of a new website, a redesign, want to chat about minimalism, tea and typography, or are just curious about how stone carving influences my digital work, let’s connect. I’m always excited to collaborate on projects that value simplicity, elegance, and a touch of craftsmanship.
